We’re excited to welcome Gene Maule as the newest member of the Center of Hope’s Board of Directors! We asked Gene to share his thoughts on the Center and his experience so far.
How long have you been a Board member? This is my second time as a BOCH Board member, it has only been maybe six months. However, I was on the Board for eight years, I served a term as President.
Why did you choose to join the Board? I was asked to be part of the building campaign. When I came in for the interview and took a tour of the facility and watched and talked to a number of the participants I realized my heart was still with BOCH and decided I wanted to again be on the Board. It is in my heart to be a part of this organization.
Please describe what being on the Board means to you. Being on the Board presents to me an opportunity to use what knowledge and experience I have gained during my life to help an organization which is so important to the participants and families of the participants it serves. Especially with the financial uncertainty which BOCH faces every day. It is also an opportunity to work with individuals from different generations who have different ideas, different though processes.
What would you say to a prospective Board member? If you like to be associated with other Board members, many who are parents of participants, and a dedicated staff who have a shared passion and soft hearts for an extremely worthy cause, who want to help individuals who are less fortunate than themselves, if you enjoy addressing problems and working on solutions, if you want to see sincere appreciative smiles and receive genuine hugs from the participants this is the Board of Directors for you.
What is the biggest change you’ve seen since you joined the Board? What I have seen comes from my first eight years on the Board; many of the needs of the organization that have existed for years have been prioritized and a comprehensive, well thought out plan of action is in place as well as a financial campaign strategy.
What keeps you on the Board? So simple…the participants!
Anything else you’d like us to know? I feel our, the Board and staff, biggest challenge is to get information about who we are, what we do, who we do it for, how we receive funding, how the public can help out to the public. I believe we need a media partner.
