COH Monthly E-Newsletter – April 2025 (Board Spotlight – Sue Mullins)
Get to know Board member Sue Mullins
Sue Mullins sits on the Board of Directors at the Center of Hope. We asked Sue to share some of her thoughts about the Center and her time on the Board.
How long have you been a Board member? I joined the board in December 2022.
Why did you choose to join the Board? As a past Life Skills teacher at Windsor/Harlem Middle School and Special Olympic coach in the Harlem School district, I had the honor of teaching and coaching many of the Center’s past and present students. Over the years I have toured the Center to see what opportunities were available for my students after their school years and I attended some fundraising events. When asked to join the board, I didn’t have to think twice about it.
Please describe what being on the Board means to you.It makes me proud to be a part of a place that gives adults with disabilities opportunities to reach their potential while being a caring environment. Seeing past students/athletes and meeting participants is always a plus for me.
What would you say to a prospective Board member? If you want to make a difference for adults with developmental disabilities, who will give their all and can bring a smile to your face, this could be the place for you.
What is the biggest change you’ve seen since you joined the Board? An increase in community outings for the participants.
What keeps you on the Board? Knowing how important the Center is for the participants and their families.
Anything else you’d like us to know? If you know someone with a developmental disability, spread the word on what the Center does for the participants. If you are a parent or family member, let others know what Center means to you and your child. If you are a community member, support the Center so they can continue to provide opportunities that you and I take for granted.
