Meet Luann Baxter
Luann Baxter is a direct support professional at the Center of Hope and has been on the staff over 10 years. We asked Luann to share some of her thoughts about the Center.
Please describe your role at the Center. I am a DSP and my room is #4. We do a lot of craft and art things, along with our daily curriculum
Why did you choose this field? I knew at an early age that I wanted to work in this field.
What advice would you give someone who is interested in working at the Center? If they were new to this profession I’d say It’s not a job, it’s a passion
What is the biggest change you’ve seen over the years? Since COVID we no longer rotate rooms. We have a new kitchen, new participants, an art class, music class, and other cultural arts classes that the participants truly enjoy. We also have a new computer program that makes our paperwork so much easier.
What keeps you at the Center? The participants, the hours, weekends and holidays off and they are very flexible and accommodating when time off is needed.
Anything else you’d like us to know? I’m a very family oriented, friendly, and straight forward person. In all my years in this field, I have learned patience, not to sweat the small stuff, and let God take care of the rest. I’m also an avid animal lover not just kittens, Guinee pigs, hamsters and dogs. I love being at the farm!
