Alpine Kiwanis award grant to Center of Hope

by Barbara Olson Center of Hope | Apr 01, 2019

The Alpine Kiwanis granted $1,200 to purchase sensory stimulation tools to enhance the Center’s therapeutic programming for our participants who have autism.

The sensory items will be used to promote motor skills, improve concentration and focus, as well as provide a place for necessary relaxation time. They range from a giant colorful keyboard mat to color liquid tiles to hoop gliders, all designed to both stimulate and calm the senses.

“The sensory items provide particular sensory input that many people with autism need. Some can actually improve concentration for people who need to keep their hands busy to listen and engage in other activities. Sensory tools are fun, colorful, inviting learning opportunities for the people we work with and we can offer learning their way,” stated Jenny Kiser, qualified intellectual disabilities professional.

Thanks to the Alpine Kiwanis for providing the needed support for the Barbara Olson Center of Hope to more efficiently and effectively fulfill its mission to help individuals with developmental disabilities reach personal goals through individualized skill development, vocational opportunities, and community service.
